Village Needs Survey
 
Conducted - June to September 2009

 

Methodology

The survey was in the main conducted online using a multiple choice questionnaire format. Additional surveys completed in paper form by those without access to the internet were entered manually. Thanks go to esurveypro.com for use of their free facilities.

 

The questionnaire sought to ascertain:

 

Residents ratings of current facilities in the village

Priorities for facilities in the Community Centre

Projected usage patterns for facilities in the Community Centre

 

The survey was open on line from Late June to early September 2009

 

Result overview

 

In all 74 responses were received, representing approximately 1.5% of the current village population.

 

Responses were split 70% Female / 30% male on a gender basis

Observations

 

The survey highlights the following facilities in the village which above 40% of respondents considered as being very poor / poor:

 

Citizens Advise Facilities (approx 50%)

Village services Information (approx 40%)

Community Coffee Shop (approx 50%)

Art Exhibition Facilities (60+ %)

Community Drop-in Centre (approx 50%)

Youth Meeting Places (approx 45%)

 

The areas can be considered opportunities for improvement

 

The survey also highlighted major concurring priorities for the Community Centre:

 

Youth Drop-in Centre (approx 57%)

Youth Activities Centre (approx 57%)

Community Coffee Shop (approx 56%)

Village Information Service (approx 52%)

Citizens Advice Facility (approx 50%)

Local Art Exhibition Facilities (approx 45%)

Arts & Crafts Club (approx 45%)

Mother & Toddler Drop-in Play Facility (approx 45%)

Senior Citizens Club (approx 45%)

Village Heritage Displays (approx 40%)

 

The survey projected that the following facilities once available in the Community Centre, would be utilised by in excess of 40% of respondents on an occasional or greater frequency:

Drama Performances

Musical Performances

Arts & Crafts Club

Coffee Shop

 

Note: Projected youth usage needs further investigation due to the low number of under 18 survey responses. Cottenham Village College has agreed to facilitate a further survey of students in the 2009

Autumn term. This addition data will significantly broaden and increase the sample size.

 

 

 

 

Conclusions

 

In addition to the current activities, there is a demonstrable need and demand for the following facilities in the Community Centre, which are both an enhancement to and in harmony with existing village facilities:
