Cottenham Community Centre - 'Church to Community Coffee Shop' Project - reaches the finals of the ITV People's Millions Lottery Award

November the 24th was a key date for us all, as this was the day that our project was pitted against another project from the Anglia region. At stake, a £50,000 award that could be used to refurbish and transform the previous Methodist Church into a high quality community drop-in centre, Coffee Shop and much needed community facility which will become the heart of the village.

Unfortunately, we didn't win our Tuesday head to head with the Rowan Gate School, who's project to refurbish a therapy pool for disabled children won huge support across the Anglia region.

However, we did win the special bonus award of £50,000 for the project with the most votes that didn't win it's head to head. We are told that our 'Church to Community Coffee shop' project polled the second highest votes in the competition, second only to the Rowan Gate School. An excellent result, well done and thanks to all the residents and friends of Cotteham who voted for us on Tuesday.

What will happen on November 24th?

ITV will broadcast a short film about both ours and a competing project during the evening regional news programme on the 24th November.

Supporters will be able to vote for projects by calling the vote line numbers, that has yet to be released. Voting will be open from 9am to midnight Tuesday 24th November and will cost 10p from a BT Landline, costs on other networks may vary.

The result of the voting for our project will be broadcast on the ITV Regional News Programme, Wednesday 25th November

Should we be successful, the cash will be used to re-furbish the church area of the Community building to increase and improve services for the local community.

Improvements will include the creation of a coffee shop, children's play area, fair-trade outlet and a display and information area for community activities. The centre will be redecorated and lit in keeping with the architecture of the church.

Once complete, the centre will be able to run activities throughout the day and evening
Why is your vote doubly important?

The initial awards are given to the project which has the highest number of telephone votes cast on the day of transmission. (our project will be broadcast on the 24th November)

However, there will be a runner up award for the non-winning project with the most number of votes overall.

So, should we be unsuccessful in the initial bid, if we have enough votes we could have a second chance in the runner-up competition, the result of which will be broadcast on 27th Nov at the end of the competition week
